We are interested in receiving enquiries from councils, social services, GP consortiums or private healthcare companies who want to improve their success rates and outcomes in smoking, alcohol or drug related treatments.

The Government is to grant huge powers to the NHS Commissioning Board, allowing it to help determine the shape and structure of GP consortia, and parachute in alternative providers, such as private companies, to help run those that are failing.

The board - headed up by current NHS chief executive Sir David Nicholson - will also be able to intervene to change the size of a consortium, parachute in ‘any person who is a provider of medical services' to help run it, or remove any member of the consortium's management, if it is found to be failing.

The focus has now changed to 'outcomes and results' and ending dependency for nicotine, alcohol and drugs.

Also, under its plans to increase patient choice, the Department of Health is proposing to open up the field by enabling people to choose services from 'any willing provider'.

Patients will be able to choose which GP they register with and whether to be treated at an NHS hospital or private or charity-run institutions.
